National security in Swedish law

The aim of the project is to write a monograph that comprehensively but thoroughly examines and describes how the concept of national security affects Swedish legislation in a number of legal areas. The project systematizes and analyzes how the concept is expressed in Swedish legislation, especially legislation that affects individuals and private actors (both private individuals and legal persons). The project's approach makes visible the consequences of references to national security in both public and civil law by first identifying and then problematizing the legitimate interest in maintaining national security, on the one hand, and the effect of legal regulation introduced to maintain national security on the legal position of individuals and their rights protection, on the other hand. The study will consider both legislation that is specifically geared towards maintaining security in various ways (security law) and other legislation that cannot be considered as a whole to belong to the category of security law but which has individual chapters or paragraphs referring to national security.
