2020-02-18The Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Nordic Prize in Design and Crafts was established by the Torsten and Ragnar Söderberg Foundations to mark the 100th anniversary of Torsten Söderberg's birth on November 4, 1894. From 2014, the Torsten Söderberg Foundation was the sole sponsor of the prize.
The award highlighted innovation and excellence in craft and design over 25 years, 1994-2018.
The prize money of SEK 1 million was awarded to a person working in one of the Nordic countries and the winner was given the opportunity to create their own exhibition at the Röhsska Museum.
The Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize was the largest design prize in the world, with the winner chosen by a prize committee and awarded annually. The jury consisted of the director of the Röhsska Museum (chairman), representatives of the five Nordic countries (usually the heads of the Nordic design museums) and, for many years, the late former chairman of the Foundation, Tomas Söderberg.
