A book about silk manufacturer K. A. Almgren's letter collection 1858-1882

The silk manufacturer Knut August Almgren 1806-1884, active in Stockholm, left about 100 private letters written home to the family from his business trips in Germany, Italy and France. The later letters are addressed to his sons on their business trips in the same countries. The letters are in the Almgren family's private collection and have never been published before. The collection of letters will be handed over to the Almgren Archive at the National Archives after transcription and publication within the framework of this project. The book is a collaboration between the undersigned Klas Nyberg and the artist and graphic designer Ingela Almgren (fifth generation of the family and the family's representative on the board) who transcribes the original letters and designs the book. The letters edition is intended as a sequel to our previous publication in 2012 of K. A. Almgren's "Dagjournal för resan till Frankrike år 1828". Nyberg has written a scientific essay to accompany the original letters. It places the letters in the European and Swedish context of textile history in the transition from guilds to free trade. The letters provide a detailed picture of the international market conditions and how these were implemented in Sweden during the last phase of the crinoline fashion.
