New application
Click on "Start a new application" and select the subject area that the project falls under. To end an application in progress, click on "Cancel". The application will be saved on "My page" and can be resumed at a later date.
Step 1 - Contact details
A. Contact and organizational details
Fill in your name and contact details. Enter the university and department, or other organization. Applicants who do not belong to any organization only fill in their address details.
Please note that this information is used by the Foundation in its contacts with the applicant, such as the sending of decision letters. The Lead Applicant/Project Officer is the person who represents the project in all contacts with the Foundation.
B. Head of department, department head, manager or equivalent
The name and contact details of the head of department, department head, manager or equivalent at the above-mentioned higher education institution or other organization must be provided. In connection with the submission of the application, an e-mail with information about the Foundation's privacy policy will be sent to the specified person.
Step 2 - Grant manager
Enter the grant administrator who will administer the grant. Select the institution (university/college) from the list below or enter the organization number for another organization. If there is no organization, enter the social security number. Confirm the current address by clicking on "Use this identity".
Note that surcharges for indirect administrative costs and direct premises costs (OH) are made by the Foundation afterwards and only for researchers who will use office space and administration at a university for the research project applied for. Applies to the subject areas economics, law and other.
Step 3 - Project description
A. Subject area. The choice of subject area was made on "My page". If you made a mistake, click on "Cancel" and select the subject area by starting a new application.
B. Period of the grant. Indicate the period for which the grant is intended (both start and end dates). Do not apply for a longer period than strictly necessary. The grant period is the basis for the budget part.
In the fields of economics, law and other disciplines, doctoral researchers can, as a general rule, be awarded grants for a maximum of two years. Doctoral students and other researchers can apply for a maximum of 4 years. If, for example, both doctoral researchers and doctoral students are included in the application, the longest grant period is indicated here.
In the field of medicine, researchers can apply for a maximum of 4 years.
C. Project title. Enter a title for the project, in Swedish.
D. The popular science summary must be written in Swedish (max. 1,500 characters including spaces) and edited and ready for possible publication on the Foundation's website.
E. The project description must be written in Swedish (max. 12,500 characters including spaces). Only for applications in the subject area of medicine will the project description be accepted in English. The focus should be on the part of the project to which the application relates, but also give a complete picture of the entire research project. Remember to structure the project description carefully as space is limited.
The following arrangement is proposed:
- problem area, purpose and boundaries
- method
- timetable
- presentation of the project team
- publications and previous research related to the project
- itemization of costs directly necessary for the project
- reference to any annexes.
The applicant is responsible for ensuring that the research meets the requirements of Swedish legislation and is conducted in accordance with good research practice. Ethical review decisions do not therefore need to be submitted. However, the applicant must always state in the application whether there are ethical aspects to the research project. See also the Swedish Research Council/Codex and the Swedish Ethical Review Authority.
Step 4 - Previous grants
A. Continuation grant. Indicate whether the project in question has previously received funding from the Torsten Söderberg Foundation. If so, the application is for a continuation grant. Enter the case number of the granted project and give a detailed account of the research results to date (max. 1,500 characters) in an interim report. Also briefly specify the costs of the project and any remaining funds (max. 1,500 characters).
B.grants awarded in the past Details of other projects granted by the Foundation. Indicate the case number (or year), project title and amount.
Step 5 - Budget (economics, law, other)
A supplement for indirect administrative costs and direct premises costs is made by the Foundation afterwards for researchers who will use office space and administration at a higher education institution for the research project applied for.
For funding individual researchers, the Foundation primarily awards grants.
A. Scholarship for researchers with projects at the institution/organization
Scholarship holders who will be conducting research at a higher education institution or at another organization apply under this heading.
For co-applicant scholarship holders, please fill in all columns. An email with information on the Foundation's privacy policy will be sent to the person indicated.
For co-applicants not yet recruited, please indicate only their title, scope of work and skills.
The scholarship amounts are based on the Foundation's fixed levels for doctoral researchers and doctoral students, and other academic researchers. Calculation is based on the scope of work in the project. For unnamed participants, the title is mandatory. Note that the number of years in the budget is added up according to the specified grant period in step 3.
Doctoral researchers can apply for a maximum of two years and 75% of full time.
Doctoral students and other researchers can apply for a maximum of four years, full-time. In addition, doctoral students are allowed to teach at the institution up to 20% of full-time. In these cases, the Foundation requires the doctoral student to ensure that the corresponding part of the grant is saved for the completion of the doctoral thesis.
Doctoral students can be sole principal applicants or visitors in a project group. Applications can be made for shorter or longer periods, but no more than 4 years full-time. In addition, teaching at a university is allowed up to 20 percent of full-time. The Foundation then requires that the corresponding part of the grant is saved for the completion of the doctoral thesis. A certificate with a statement from the supervisor must be attached to the application together with a certificate that the university accepts scholarship funding for the period applied for.
Contributions to the insurance amount are calculated and included for research longer than 6 months and at least 40% of full-time. The insurance should cover what you normally have as an employee, such as health insurance and occupational pension. The grant holder is responsible for taking out insurance.
Other overheads directly necessary for the project must be declared under research-related costs (C).
B. Scholarship for researchers with projects not linked to the institution/organization
Fellows who will not be conducting research at a university or other organization can apply under this heading.
Fill in all columns and total amount. An email with information on the Foundation's privacy policy will be sent to the person indicated. For unnamed co-applicants , please provide only the title, scope of work and total amount.
Other overheads should be listed under research-related costs (C).
Please note that these scholarships do not cover indirect administrative costs or direct accommodation costs.
C. Research-related costs
This heading includes costs that are directly necessary to carry out the project, such as research travel, data and literature purchase or publication costs. List each budget line clearly and specify in the project description.
Grants for conferences, travel or printing only are awarded in exceptional cases.
Please note that indirect administrative costs and other charges may not be deducted from research-related costs awarded. See the Indirect Costs Policy.
Step 5 - Budget (medicine)
Contributions to indirect administrative costs and direct premises costs (OH) should not be included in the budget. See the Foundation's Indirect Costs Policy.
A. Scholarship for researchers with projects at the institution/organization
Fellowship funding can be included as part of the framework grant in the field of medicine. Insurance contributions are calculated for research exceeding 6 months and at least 40% of full-time. For co-applicant scholarship holders, please fill in all columns. An email with information on the Foundation's privacy policy will be sent to the person indicated.
For co-applicants not yet recruited, please indicate only their title, scope of work and skills.
Other overheads should be listed under research-related costs (D).
