Söderberg Trade Prize 2013 to Professor Klas Nyberg and Associate Professor Fredrik Sandgren

The jury of the Söderberg Trade Prize has decided to award the 2013 prize to researchers in economic history Professor Klas Nyberg, at Stockholm University, and Associate Professor Fredrik Sandgren, at Uppsala University, for their work in highlighting the development of trade over time.

The jury's motivation

"Professor Klas Nyberg and Associate Professor Fredrik Sandgren are jointly awarded the Söderberg Trade Prize 2013 for their work to highlight the development of trade through the ages. They have meritoriously shaped the story of the importance of the trade industries. Their economic-historical perspective on trade adds much to politics, economics, theory and practice."

- The story and history of trade gives the industry an identity that is important for the development and future of trade," says Dag Klackenberg, CEO of the Swedish Trade Federation, who chairs the jury for the Söderberg Trade Prize.

The prize is the largest of its kind in Sweden and is awarded for the 25th time this year. The prize money is SEK 500 000. The award ceremony and prize lectures took place on May 2, 2013 at the Stockholm School of Economics.

Klas Nyberg
Klas Nyberg is a professor at the Center for Fashion Studies at Stockholm University. He is an economic historian and researches in the fields of textile history, consumption history and material culture. He has published a large number of books, for example Till salu, Stockholms textila handel och manufaktur 1722-1846; Kommers, historiska handelsformer i Norden under 1700- och 1800-talen and Kommersiell kompetens och industrialisering. Norrköping's wool industry growth at Stockholm's expense 1780-1846.

Fredrik Sandgren
Fredrik Sandgren is Associate Professor at the Department of Economic History at Uppsala University. His research focuses on organizational and technological innovations in the Swedish and international retail trade from the mid-18th century onwards.
