The project highlights Gustaf VI Adolf as an archaeologist, patron of the arts, and board chairman, and paints a comprehensive picture of the emergence of Nordic, classical, and East Asian archaeology, as well as of museum institutions in Sweden. With a focus on Gustaf Adolf’s long tenure as crown prince (1907–1950), the project generates new knowledge about the patronage of individual actors. It is based on previously unpublished archival material and contributes to a deeper understanding of cultural history, art, and archaeology in Sweden and abroad.
