Preservation of heritage textiles through wet cleaning.

We accept students from the conservation program at the University of Gothenburg and also from foreign universities. The profession of conservator is interdisciplinary. It includes natural science, cultural history and not least practical knowledge of the materials you handle. We see it as an important part of our business to be able to receive conservators in training. It is a way for us to keep abreast of new research and new methods in conservation while contributing our experience. In our work with conservation of cultural heritage textiles, wet cleaning is often an important part of the work process. To carry out wet cleaning in the best possible way, textile conservators rely on a specially made washing table. A washing table also provides us with opportunities for method development and for testing new cleaning methods. The grant enables the textile department to carry out the wet cleaning process in a professional manner, to carry out method development and ultimately to preserve our textile heritage.
