Rule of law in focus for new holder of the Pufendorf Professorship

Professor Christian Dahlman has been installed as holder of the Torsten and Ragnar Söderberg Foundation Professorship in memory of Samuel Pufendorf at a digital ceremony at Lund University, led by Rector Professor Erik Renström. Professor Dahlman gave a short installation lecture on his research area. The previous holder, Professor Karin Aggestam, summarized the opportunities the chair has given her and the research on justice diplomacy she has conducted.

Christian Dahlman, who is professor of general jurisprudence and active as a researcher and teacher at the Faculty of Law, conducts research on the evaluation of evidence in criminal cases and leads the research group LEVIC - Law, Evidence and Cognition. In addition to his position at Lund University, Dahlman has also conducted research at the University of Cambridge and is a leading international researcher in his field.

Dahlman's research focuses in particular on mathematical errors in probability assessment and contributes, in the spirit of Samuel Pufendorf, to improving legal certainty through a more rational evaluation of evidence.

Karin Aggestam, Professor of Political Science and Director of the Center for Middle East Studies, researches peacebuilding, mediation and justice issues. As Pufendorf Professor, she has researched justice diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution, collaborating with national and international researchers and presenting their findings to the UN Security Council.
